Hi everyone. I decided to write this essay to spark an insight on the current situation of violent manipulation, bullying and smeary aggression that is currently plaguing the game.
I need to make a couple of clarifications before developing my thoughts. First, this essay is, much like any other opera magna of artistic expression, long. There is no need for you to read it if you lack the intellectual capability of processing texts longer than a skill description. Not that I am implying that the standard reader can read and comprehend a skill description anyway. Secondly, this pamphlet is mostly focused on the PvP format of Random Arenas, for reasons that will appear clearer during the reading. Please keep in mind that RA is nothing but a mere meta-reflection of the bigger picture. Needless to say, the real focus is GvG – this becomes obvious in Part 2.
PART 1 – INTRODUCTION TO ABUSE
CHAPTER 1: SYNC AS A FORM OF INTELLECTUAL REGRESSION. I am not talking about the player but about the activity. This is the theoretical introduction to the vast cultural development. I think that the name of the chapter is enough self-explanatory.
CHAPTER 2: BOTS IN LOWER-END FORMATS. During the last, maybe 8 years, there has been vast discussion as to per why botters have been increasingly so exponentially. Many apologists like to assume that botting is a reaction to other unfair starting conditions, such as élitarianism on high-end PvP or sync in low-end PvP. That assumption does personally not thrill me, as it is clear that bots do not immunize to élitarian tendencies whatsoever, nor they prevent other forms of mechanical abuse.
Historical responsibilities related to botting are now settled in stone: Lamerz, Carry, Pande, WaDaw, Fisto, Marc, Ariana, among others, have damaged the community for their own entertainment.
CHAPTER 3: KARLA GREY. Karla Grey is, unfortunately, a despicable individual. She has been abusing low-end mechanics since GWBeta. Not content in her desolation, she decided to institute a terror regimen in RA, where anyone who dares to contradict her perverse ideas gets punished by being deemed unworthy of honour, hence deserving of endless reports. She has, at the current point, moved beyond any form of logic. Her word must be interpreted literally, for who does not conform to her will is certainly a cheater.
This is what happened to be. Annoyed by her syncs, I called her out – the result was the beginning of an unpreceded hate campaign, that led me to having suicidal thoughts, overcome only with the help of very good GW friends.
CHAPTER 4: QEKZ AND EURO. I will not focus on QeKz as their syncs have already been discussed. The fact that they send alts in the form of “noob player” bots (bots that use bad bars, 60 armor bots, etc) has no impact on the overall RA equilibrium, unfortunately.
Their lack of understanding of game mechanics, only paired by their raging attitude, are only paired by Euro. Let me be very clear: Euro is a guild composed of bad players exclusively. It is an entry requirement. Not second to that, they are also abusing game mechanics daily. But mostly, they lack any sort of vision, and prove it by constantly raging, to the point that they start sending you PM’s on multiple accounts until you go offline. This is clearly very damaging and ridiculous. My ignore list is full of Karla’s, QeKz’s and Euro’s alts. For whenever I switch to online mode, I have to carefully try and avoid their syncs, of the violent series of PM’s start. I am saying violent, because it is not game-related spam. It’s a bunch of creepy, homophobic, misogynist, and racial slurs. Truly repellent.
CHAPTER 5: RAINY, TAB AND WALKY. It wouldn’t have been necessary for me to include this chapter, but I did so for the sake of intellectual integrity. Rainy might have a decent viewpoint on others, but the sad true is that he lacks any form of introspective analysis. I tried to be friendly to him, but he has an agenda and does not welcome anything that pushes him outside of it. Which is sad. Also, there is a lack of coherency in playing with friends of all botters while campaigning against their use.
T A B, the (mostly unknown) player from WORK, is certainly an alt abuser, as well as horrible person overall. Never have I seen such illiteracy used in such a foul manner. But, he has no place in the design of this booklet.
WALKY. To be honest, I don’t know her. What I know is that she gets so mad every time she loses (which is almost the same as every time) that she had to threaten my life on multiple occasions. I have nothing but pity for you, dear obese girl. Try to lose weight and see a psychologist.
PART 2 – GUILD WARS CYBERBULLYING
Now that I have clearly stated the current RA degenerate situation, and that I made it clear that I got nothing but abuse (PM’s 24/7, reports, insults…) for calling it out, let me move on to main topic of interest here, which is GvG. This is going to be shorter as, unfortunately, it’s a work in progress. I say unfortunately not because of the work, but because of the progress. As in, it seems that the abuse is now so deep that every attempt to play GvG that I do has to be opposed by verbal harassment.
CHAPTER 6: TEACHING SCRIMS. This is the prelude to one of the most dramatic parts of my already very dark essay.
I have tried playing GvG on multiple occasions. The first one, some years ago by now, I was flamed hard by Butters (unexpectedly) for using Sig of Rej on him while he was dying. I get the logic but, I had my HB diverted. I don’t think it’s fair to insult a newer player for a small mistake. Anyway, the thing did not bother me much, but I decided to stop playing as the environment did not feel learners-friendly (and most of all, I had things going on IRL).
When I came back, I saw the Teaching Scrims project ongoing and was thrilled! I attended once. And I had fun!
CHAPTER 7: TEACHING TUTORS. I like to think of myself as a very fluid player, I like to switch between different professions, keeping constant my own vision of the game. I marinate in that vision. Because of my eclectic attitude, I do not have a specific role I prefer to play. Therefore, I asked many GvG players if they were interested in sort of tutoring me during one of the teaching scrims, to understand which profession and gamestyle suited me most. I did so during RA encounters, because I did not want to PM them directly unexpectedly, as it could be perceived as impolite.
I think that the most archetypic example of a response is HONK’s one: not only he did not agree (more than legitimately!), he also said to don’t ever ask again and that I “sounded like Robert” (which I know to be an obese metrosexual, but have never spoken to personally). He then proceeded to kick my team with 2 monks just because I had asked (even though he did not confirm). I have nothing against HONK as this is, once again, just an example of the level of friendliness. I am aware that I am not owed opportunities but I feel that it’s detrimental to the whole Teaching project to suppress a player’s will to improve. I found it rude.
CHAPTER 8 – TEMPORARY CONCLUSIONS. So, this is basically the current state of the game. The lower PvP part is ruled by either botters or other abusers, all under the dominium of Karla Grey, who absolutely despises opposition and is willing to prevent you from playing any game without being insulted and reported. At the moment, I have to delete some alts from my ignore list every time I go online, so I can add others. It’s a sick vicious circle. On the other hand, the GvG community does not care (legitimately) too much about this, and tends to oppose any change that does not develop from extreme shocks (FISTO).
In the future I suppose I will attend more teaching scrims, as long as the abuse is kept at a minimum. I don’t think it’s fair for newer players to try and attend GvG scrims only to find themselves forced to play with rude obeses such as WALKY, KRSHSTFKSF (or whatever his name his), etc. They spew their frustration on you 24/7 in RA, and then you are supposed to look after them even though they have nothing more than you but some experience. This is why I don’t agree with GODLY’s idea that what happens in RA does not touch GvG unless it revolves around botting. Everything that happens in RA is a reflection, sooner or later a tangible one, of the GvG scenario. Thanks for reading if you did, thanks for not commenting if you did not read.
