Buildwars

Buildwars (buildwars.net ) is a website to store matchups and builds. There's an additional text field which can be used to describe the match, flame someone or give the link to a vid (of that match). Everyone can contribute. But pretty much no one does. I was quite a bit disappointed when I saw no one put matches from this mAT up. It feels like I am the only one investing time into adding content to that site (even though I know some of you did alot, especially last mAT).

    Thus I have some questions:

    • Do you know of buildwars.net ?
    • Do you visit buildwars.net now an then?
    • What's your reason for visiting/not visiting it?
    • How frequent do you visit it?
    • Would you contribute to the buildwars project by adding matchupts? In case no, is there any special reason?
    • Anything else you'd find useful to tell on that topic?

I hope some of you answer these questions (especially the last one) so I see whether it's worth to invest time into that project or given the desastrous state of the GvG community stopping it as it's a waste of time.

It's the same deal for me as with guild wars in general, less active and don't have the time. I used add more content in past, nowadays I just check it sometimes.

  3. Oh my, fuc* that.

I was hoping that the lack of matches of this Mat (in buildwars) was due to the DDoS of some Guilds during the Tournament as I could see some people arguing here. But it seems from your post that's not really the case.

Well, I stopped playing Guild Wars on late 2011 because of my studies (PhD level bitches) and since I was mad addicted on playing GvG and HA (yeah at that time there was still a scenario bro) my only source to confront the withdraw syndrome of this game was Buildwars, QQ Forum, Guild Wars Guru and Youtube.

Not only GWG went to waste after 11 yrs, QQ forum almost did the same recently (last year).

Now there is only QQ and of course Buildwars, so people like me can enjoy and hold back the strong nostalgia in it's place or where it belongs, the past, by continually watching matches through Buildwars and
analyzing it's build's while seeing all the e-drama developing here *BTW KUDOS TO THE GUILD It Aint Much If It Aint (Flux) for playing builds that ain't meta, which make the matches much more enjoyable.

So for all that and many others that I know that still keep a neat eye in this game because it was the best cooprpg and Competitive game ever made, please continue to feed us through out BuildWars as I can assure you that many people that doesn't even play the game anymore, still keep in track with the site and its updates.

In fact I made not so long ago a topic about this same issue, right here.

Many tards that moved to MOBA games because it was an era of population decline in Guild Wars, still visit not only QQ but Buildwars too on regular basis (that's ofc based on people I know and still has contact)

PS: If I ever win the lottery, i'm gonna make this game great again. lol.

  4. @Sadness *BTW KUDOS TO THE GUILD It Aint Much If It Aint (Flux) for playing builds that ain't meta, which make the matches much more enjoyable.

You're welcome. We're doing it for the fans!

On a more serious note, I'm already busy enough with my own guild to figure out builds on the other side and putting them on the net, and because until now we weren't in top 100, so the matches wouldn't stick.

Do you know of buildwars.net ? - Yes
Do you visit buildwars.net now an then? - Not as often as I did when i played the game
What's your reason for visiting/not visiting it? - Nostalgia / not really caring anymore
Would you contribute to the buildwars project by adding matchupts? In case no, is there any special reason? - Used to when I played if the builds were exciting (HD vs Mean with 5 physicals vs many smite skills; http://buildwars.net/match.php?id=235 )

Do people even observe games as much anymore to even see what builds are being played? - Don't most people just log on to play the ATs or mAT (hence why there are so many posts about scrimming instead of ATing due to not enough guilds etc)?

I cut down on uploading matches before I stopped playing because it was taking too long (40+ minutes per match). Caring a little less about accuracy might have made it faster (there were plenty of uploads with conspicuous errors on skillbars), but that seems like it'd defeat the purpose.

If nothing else, I think that monthly matches should be up there for the purpose of historical preservation, but I guess that's not something most people are going to care about enough.

  7. Do you know of buildwars.net ? - Yes
Do you visit buildwars.net now an then? - Yes
What's your reason for visiting/not visiting it? - Sometimes for checking out metas from previous years, sometimes to fact check things, sometimes to see if there's anything interesting people have played recently and sometimes for nostalgia
Would you contribute to the buildwars project by adding matchupts? In case no, is there any special reason? - Yes (I was going to do it for MAT but I procrastinated and the matches went off obs sooner than I anticipated - oops). As Lemming said, the time and effort to accurately put builds up is deterrent. Also over the last few weeks / month there have been a lot less matches on obs / less interesting matches generally and certainly less so in the MAT. If GvG activity picks up again towards the end of the year as it often does and leads to more great matches on obs then there will be more motivation to use the buildwars site again imo

  8. Do you know of buildwars.net ? - Yes
Do you visit buildwars.net now and then? Not really.
Sites like Buildwars would be good places to store match replay files if such things existed. But they don't. Guild War's obs mode is crap. In many other games you can download an entire match replay file and then you can replay it from different perspectives, or analyze the file with whatever tools you have (e.g. skills used, team/player DPS, damage received, best spike, most rupted/rupts etc). If obs mode was less crap you'd be able to see the observed player's skillbar and how it's being used, cooldowns etc and it'd be more spectator-friendly for people not familiar with GW1 but familiar with other games.

Is it possible to correct posted builds?

  10. The admins can do that. Just ask them for it. A list of buildwars admins can be found in the FAQ section:

Do you know of buildwars.net ? Ye
Do you visit buildwars.net now an then? Ye
What's your reason for visiting/not visiting it? To see what last years meta was in the current flux.
How frequent do you visit it? Few times a month.
Would you contribute to the buildwars project by adding matchupts? In case no, is there any special reason? No, I'm too lazy and it would have to be a really special match for me to want to do so.
Anything else you'd find useful to tell on that topic? No.

  12. Do you know of buildwars.net ? Yeah.
Do you visit buildwars.net now an then? Yeah.
What's your reason for visiting/not visiting it? Bored/nostalgia.
How frequent do you visit it? Couple of times a month.
Would you contribute to the buildwars project by adding matchupts? Sure, now that I have more free time I'll try to add any interesting match.

Even though buildwars sounds similar to "picture wars" in German, we will not accept those gay pictures, so we're not giving a fuck.

    Update (25/26 Sep 2016):

    • Replaced profession icons in build list with a special font I made with a website named icomoon. Thanks to poke for digging out the original profession icon files from LordBiro. This should speed up loading the archive a lot. Maybe this change is undone for the main page in a future update.
    • Fixed above XSS.
    • Added a link to Happy's video archive.

For the next update, I plan adding a feature codenamed "BuildWars TV". It's for adding videos and pretty much the same as current BuildWars - with one difference: Instead of adding build codes, you will add professions (e.g. Mo/Me). At the same time, both modes (normal and video modes) get a way to mark players with PoV videos and set a flag for general videos. Adding Twitch and timecode support is also planned.

Looks like I'll be taking buildwars.net back to my own server soon (domain will change). Smiley, who is hosting it right now, insists on using several techniques causing issues.

    • He forces HTTPS which causes problems for some users (e.g. Nordwolf, who is providing a lot of content). He refuses to tell me why, but maybe because he thinks that NSA shouldn't know about your Guild Wars builds.
    • Now he changed some program that he insists all database connections must pass. He didn't tell me, but that broke the website. Earlier, adding builds didn't work. After a quick change by me, that works again, but non-admins cannot edit locked builds. I have a job and don't want to be repeatedly scanning his code for changes that break Build Wars, as my PHP skill is so low that doing this will take me ages.

Can't access buildwars.net with Firefox, I'm getting this error:
    MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_REQUIRED_TLS_FEATURE_MISSING

    Works fine on Chrome though.

  18. Works fine for me.
Also: "The Necromentalist was definitely the MVP."

  19. I had the same issue with Firefox, thus I use Chrome for buildwars. But I guess Janni works on solving this problem.

  20. BuildWars is now back to its original domain, http://memorial.redeemer.biz/ . I ask every contributer to contribute there (in case you can even access the old site).

    Notes:

    • I did not change the header image yet.
    • I did not make the mAT special pages available again yet.

    Everything else should be working.
