yeah everyone was pretty over hyped considering how funny and unexpected that was after [cute] annihilated us in about 5 minutes every day for the 3-4 weeks leading up to the mat.

Looking back, I can remember the birth of this guild. It was a warm September evening; the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. A cool breeze tickled my shoulders. I accepted the guild invite, ready for another month of victory, but was blown away at the guild name. 'The Enemy Inside' ? Why would anybody make such an abomination of a guild name? I wondered what it even meant, but soon came to regret finding out.

Since May, this group of misfits and outcasts had exceeded all expectations of what a group of people could accomplish in Guild Wars. It was typical for us to log on, triumph with a 4/0 in the daily AT, and go on with our days. But like the amber leaves of this September autumn, we began to fall. More often than not, we found ourselves dead within 4 short minutes. Even the few games that we managed to win were rough-- there was no such thing as a "clean victory" for us. Morale and confidence took a dive. As early as 2 weeks before the September mAT, a majority of our members began preparing for a guild disban, making plans for reforming with other players under new authority. My shoulders ached with the weight of team spirit. I felt as if I was the only one trying to carry it. Many spectators came to me and asked, "wtf r u shitters doin lolol u lose to everyone", and they were right. There was not a single guild we could beat reliably. I observed our matches and watched our streams, searching for an answer as to why we were not improving, and were, rather, only getting worse. After failing to find a concrete explanation, I realized that the answer could not be seen in Obs. The poison inflicting our team was the bitterness we held. The Enemy Inside was ourselves.

Only days before the mAT did our team leader, lord, and savior Smoki Superstar decide that he had had enough of our failures. He abandoned ship, leaving the rest of us to wonder if we should even bother continuing. None of us blamed him. In fact, a sense of jealousy was felt among other players who envied his freedom. The shackles of [Tilt] demoralized everyone, and our final candle of hope had just died out.

I prayed to the 6 gods: Balthazar, Melandry, Dwayna, Lyssa, Grenth, and Kormir. I asked them, begged them, for mercy. All we needed was an IRL morale boost and we could return to being the best. The Hands of the Gods touched us, and returned Smoki to our guild. However, confidence was still not fully restored. People continued to speak nonsense, such as "ima get drunk after we lose zzz" and "we prob place last tbh". But we powered through. With hammers and scythes, arrows and wands, we cut down our enemies game after game. It was only until Finals did our team fully recover from the emotional distress invoked upon us from the month's pattern of failures.

This was it. We made it to Finals. None had faith that we would have risen this far, not even ourselves. But there we stood, on the corrupted soil of the Realm of Torment. The Fluffy Rainbow Unicorns charged at us, armed with steel and stone. Foolish they were, as those weapons are designed to slay men, not gods.

Within minutes, we returned to the Great Temple of Balthazar to give grace to the Pantheon. We entered the mAT as pessimistic invertebrates; we left as Champions.

It was a long and difficult battle throughout the month, but in the end, we managed to defeat The Enemy Inside.
